How often should transmission service be done

Automatic transmission are composed of many interconnected parts and so repairs are often costly. Care should be taken and regular transmission service should be done so that repairs are not needed.

An automatic transmission wears out because it creates a lot of heat and friction (around 175 degrees Fahrenheit). Even a small rise in temperatures can cut the life of the transmission fluid.

The transmission fluid is a thin oil that fills the automatic transmission allowing it to operate on hydraulic pressure. It should be changed every 80000 km for most cars. In some owner's manual you can encounter information that the transmission oil doesn't need changing, but this can lead to damage that can cost you a lot in repairs later on.
